Rolf Nykmark was born in Oslo, Norway.
He started his singing musical career in The Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) Boyschoir “Sølvguttene” for many years.
Rolf Nykmark graduated from The Norwegian State Academy and Østlandets Musikkonservatorium, with prof. Oskar Raaum and prof. Olav Eriksen as his singing teachers. Prof. Oskar Raaum was a student of the famous Italian baritone and operasinger Riccardo Stracciari, famous opera singer and tenor Aureliano Pertile, baritone Pierre Bernac, and Luigi Ricci in Rome, Milan and Paris between 1947 and 1950. The baritone, concert and operasinger Olav Eriksen, a former student of Andrejeva von Skilondz (Stockholm) and Rachele Maraliano Mori (Rome), sang at the Vienna State Opera in 1962 conducted by Herbert von Karajan and Andrè Cluytens.
Nykmark studied interpretation and piano with prof. Robert Levin and prof. Kaare Ørnung, at The Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo.
Masterclasses with Thomas Hemsley (London), Vera Rosza (London/Stockholm), Karl Heinz Pinhammer (Hannover), Birgit Nilsson (Bergen Classical Festival) and SenaJurinac (Vienna).
He studied opera at The Operaschool in Stockholm with Margareta Bergström (Wagnermezzo at The Royal Opera in Stockholm) and with stage manager Knut Henriksen and Ann-Margret Pettersson.
He gave his concert debut in The University Festival Hall with Wolfgang Plagge at the piano. The concert was so successful that it led to his debut concert with The Hague Philharmonic Orchestra at the Holland Festival.
He has performed opera roles at The Oslo Opera Festival, Opera Bergen, Opera Mobile (Oslo), The Norwegian Opera and he has performed at music festivals such as Thaxted Festival (Thaxted, Essex) and The Viking Festival (Stavern, Norway).
Numerous recitals and concerts in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Holland, Germany, Italy, Austria, USA and Japan.
Nykmark has performed with Wandsbeker symphony Orchestra (Hamburg) and with The University Symphony Orchestra (Oslo), The Oslo Chamber Orchestra (Oslo), Thaxted Festival Orchestra (Thaxted, Essex), The Latvia Philarmonic Chamber Orchestra (Florence, Italy), The Orchestra ”Barrokanerne” (Oslo), The Nordic Ensemble of Japan (Suntory Hall, Tokyo) and with mixed orchestras consisting of professional musicians from The Oslo Philharmonic, The Norwegian Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, The Norwegian Opera Orchestra, The Stockholm Philharmonic and the Bergen Philharmonic.
Nykmark has been a soloist in numerous Cantatas, Masses and Oratorios by Bach, Händel, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Haydn, Mozart, Puccini, Rossini, Saint-Saens, Gounod, Plagge, Groven, Monrad Johansen and Kvandal.
He has worked with conductors such as Per Dreier (conductor of numerous orchestras all over Europe, such as The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London and London Symphony Orchestra), and Massimo Lambertini (assistant conductor to Riccardo Muti at the Ravenna Festival).
Nykmark has a huge repertoire and it consists of opera parts, operetta, musicals, evergreens, church music, lieder and classical songs.
